This happens from time to time in the church calendar. Have you wondered which celebration (Advent or Christmas) you will be attending if you attend on the evening of Decemeber 24th - the Fourth Sunday of Advent or Christmas Eve?

The Mass obligation for each of these days (4th Sunday of Advent and the Nativity of the Lord - either the vigil on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day) typically depends on the TIME which the Mass is celebrated and you attend Mass. For example, the 4th Sunday of Advent may be attended from the evening of December 23rd and throughout the day of December 24. The Christmas Mass obligation may be fufilled by attending a Mass Vigil Mass on the evening of December 24th and throughout December 25th.
