Were you aware that for several months we have had issues with the organ at St. Theresa. The biggest issue, that is exacerbated by heat and humidity, is the sticking of several of the keys on the keyboard. When a note is played, the key(s) remains down causing our organist (Laura Rosa) to have to manipulate these to continue to play the hymn correctly.
What have we done to to correct this? We have had the organ company out to evaluate this issue and alleviate the problem, only for it to re-occur just a short time later. Unfortunately, the issue of sticking keys could happen again at any time. Unfortunately, the keyboard cannot be replaced due to the age of the organ and unavailability of parts. At the present time, the keys on the organ continue to stick and to be able to provide seamless music, Laura must turn the organ off and power it up between each song.
Laura also has to “bang” on the keys many times to unstick them in order to start each hymn. You may have heard this at one time or another. After an extensive search for available used organs as well as organs that may be available at closed churches, Father Chris, with guidance from the Finance Council and Building Committee have purchased a new organ for St. Theresa church.
The new organ is an Allen organ GX215 (seen in the picture at the top).
The total cost of the new organ, including installation and training with Laura, our music director, is $45,685.00.
We expect to receive the organ by the end of May, as we work with the organ company to schedule a date. Now it’s the time to pay for this major undertaking!
