The Peg Buffum Senior Tea - Learn About It's History
Many years ago, the ladies of the - then - St. Theresa Women's Club (now St. Matthew's Women's Club) decided they would hold a tea at one of their meetings. All the ladies brought their teapots and teacups and saucers. It was so much fun that Peg (a member of the Women's Club) came up with the idea that the Club should host a tea for all the seniors. Peg chaired the event, planning and shopping and the ladies of the Women's Club assisted by baking and making sandwiches, setup, cleanup, and donating raffles.
What a memorable, wonderful event!
From that very first Senior Tea, Peg knew this should be a yearly event for our parish community. Here we are just over 40 years later continuing to host this event in her legacy.
Who was Peg Buffum you may ask?
She was a very faithful woman, always thinking of others, independent and determined, with a little stubbornness mixed in.
At the last Senior Tea Peg attended, one of the ladies suggested the Senior Tea be named after Peg. All agreed!
Peg watches from above and is with us today in spirit.
