Typically, everyone will be able to choose how they receive the sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as the priest to whom they go. They can receive face-to-face or they can go to confession anonymously, which means that the personĀ  behind an opaque screen (the person is heard but not seen).

It is often recommended that someone who is experiencing the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time should go face-to-face, so the priest may best assist the child/person in experiencing the sacrament – this enables the priest to read facial expressions, body language, etc.
