Hello! I am Fr. Chris Casey.
I was appointed Pastor of St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in Billerica effective July 1, 2023. I am honored to serve this parish as your pastor! I came to Billerica after serving for 13 years as pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Lawrence and Methuen.
Prior to that I had a short assignment in Arlington at St. Agnes Parish which ended in just three months when I was sent to Our Lady of Good Counsel. Prior to St. Agnes I served for three years in my first assignment, where I was assigned to two parishes in Dracut, St. Margueritte D’Youville and St. Francis of Assisi. I was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston on May 26, 2007.
I am the fifth of seven children born to Cornelius and Mary (Donahue) Casey. We were all born at the Bon Secours Hospital, now Holy Family, in Methuen. We were raised in Lawrence. I attended St. Laurence O’Toole grammar school and Lawrence High School ‘78. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in Human Services from UMASS Amherst ’82. I then worked in Boston for 20 years, providing Independent Living Services for Deaf people through an agency named DEAF, Inc. It was an extremely rewarding career.
After my mother died, I found myself discerning a call to the priesthood. I entered Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary, which is a seminary for older men, or second career seminarians.
The priesthood has been a wonderful blessing in my life, and being able to share the sacraments and so many profound moments in people’s faith lives has been an extraordinary gift. I am honored to be serving here in Billerica!
